Are consumers really ready to pay for 3D at home? Survey says ‘no’
Posted on June 24, 2010 | 1 CommentOh, sure -- the results found here aren't exactly what one would call "scientific," but coupled with our own reaction gathering, we're confident that the conclusions drawn are far from inaccurate. The gang over at Technologizer gathered a group with varied demographics in New York in order to sit a spell and give their opinions on 3D content; everything from 3D "American Idol" to World Cup matches were shown, and even a few kiddo programs were ran for the youngsters. All told, most everyone was at least impressed with the 3D sports coverage, and the majority agreed that not everything benefited from being in 3D. But were they so impressed that they'd go shell out for a new TV, 3D equipment and a 3D pay-TV package? Hardly. In fact, it was tough to find a single viewer who was eager and willing to drop a wad of cash to get three-dee into their abode. Go on and give that source link a visit if you don't believe us -- no matter how you slice it, we'd say that in-home 3D has a far harder road to mainstream than HD ever did.Are consumers really ready to pay for 3D at home? Tranquil PC iXL takes you up to 2.93GHz sans fans, has equally lofty price
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No CommentsWe told you Intel's 32nm Clarkdales were power efficient, right? Well, Tranquil PC's slapped one of those chips, a 2.93GHz Core i3-530 to be precise, into its all-new iXL Power PC and now boasts a total system juice consumption of a measly 30W at idle. That means this HTPC can get away with living the quiet, fanless life, while HDMI, a trio of eSATA ports, a multicard reader, and a Blu-ray option flesh out a comprehensive package. Naively, we thought we'd throw the Blu-ray drive in with a 500GB hard disk to see what this might cost us, and were stricken with grief at the sight of a £742 ($1,100) price tag. Should four-digit entry fees not scare you off, you'll want to know that the iXL is shipping now. For everyone else, hit the source link for a a bunch of glamor photos.Tranquil PC iXL takes you up to 2.93GHz sans fans, has equally lofty price originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 06:33:00 EST. Electronic House sifts through, selects 25 greatest DIY home theaters
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No CommentsElectronic House recently published their 2010 Home of the Year award winners, but one thing those medal swingers were lacking was a tried-and-true DIY touch. Sure, there's no doubt that cold, hard cheddar can buy a fairly swank home cinema, but it's another chore entirely to piece one together with your own two hands, using your own vacation time and fending off screams from spouses, children and fellow constituents. Now, the aforementioned site has crawled through AVS Forum in search of the top 25 DIY home theaters, and after what can only be described as a Herculean search, the proverbial cream has risen. From a Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired lair to one of the tightest attic-squeezed setups we've ever seen, it's (just about) all there in the source link. Have a gander to get your own creative juices flowing, and feel free to drop images of your own layout in comments below if you somehow got slighted here.Electronic House sifts through, selects 25 greatest DIY home theaters originally appeared on Engadget HD on Tue, 18 May 2010 19:03:00 EST.
