GamePro leak reveals Killzone 3 will be in 3D
Posted on May 22, 2010 | No CommentsBesides sports and movies, videogames are expected to be another huge driver for 3DTV, and Sony is apparently ready to get behind it with one of its showcase franchises for the PlayStation 3, Killzone 3. Featured as a cover story in this month's GamePro the entire game is compatible with today's 3D HDTVs using active shutter glasses (of course) but there's no exact word on the formats being used. Check the Gamespot forums or look for the issue on newsstands June 1 for more info.GamePro leak reveals Killzone 3 will be in 3D originally appeared on Engadget HD on Sat, 22 May 2010 11:01:00 EST. Panasonic’s 50-inch TX-P50VT20 plasma reviewed: ‘The best 3D TV to date’
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No CommentsWe can see a time in the future, the very near future, where reviews of 3D HDTVs will lose their novelty. But, for now, they're still rare enough to warrant some attention, and so let's take a look at TechRadar's take on Panasonic's first 3D entry, the Viera TX-P50VT20. It's a 50-inch, 1080p plasma that excels as an HDTV, delivering great quality images -- even with SD content. When it comes to 3D the set similarly shines, supporting all of today's various modes of delivering multiple perspectives in a way those active-shutter glasses can decipher. Indeed, it was only those glasses themselves that really scored low marks, said to be uncomfortable to wear and, with their tinting, doing some unfortunate things to the color balance. Still, if you absolutely must have 3D right now, this looks like the best way to do it... for the moment.Panasonic's 50-inch TX-P50VT20 plasma reviewed: 'The best 3D TV to date' originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 12 May 2010 10:29:00 EST. Samsung and Panasonic 3DTVs use same active shutter glasses tech, but are (mostly) incompatible
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No CommentsAt a recent London shindig to promote its 3D television sets, Samsung revealed that the active shutter glasses used to view its glorious, mighty, breathtaking 3D content are based on the same technology as Panasonic's, only they're reversed. That is to say, using your Sammy 3D specs to view Panasonic's 3DTVs won't work -- unless you flip them upside down. You read that right, the two companies have opted for different implementations of the same technology, resulting in the farcical outcome that glasses will be interchangeable between their sets only if you're happy to wear them upside down. How that's gonna help the 3D takeup effort, we don't know, but Samsung R&D chief Simon Lee does see a light at the end of this dim, poorly focused tunnel, stating that manufacturers are likely to agree a common active shutter glasses standard "as early as next year." You might wanna look XpanD's way if you want universal compatibility before then, or away in disgust if you're already tired of all the absurdity surrounding 3D.Samsung and Panasonic 3DTVs use same active shutter glasses tech, but are (mostly) incompatible originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 05 May 2010 03:43:00 EST.
