Popular TV shows disappearing from Netflix streaming queues? – Update: Fixed
Posted on June 11, 2010 | No CommentsAnd not just things that should go, like season 2 and on from Heroes. We're getting reports (and have noticed in our own queues) that things like 30 Rock, Lost, The Office, Prison Break, MI-5 and pretty much any other show we'd like to watch have dropped from available for streaming over Watch Instantly to coming soon or unknown. Searching the website intermittently showed them available, and then they disappeared completely -- including any options for Blu-ray and DVD rental -- which would appear to indicate this is just an extension of severe problems it's been experiencing since yesterday, reported by Hacking Netflix. The pessimists in the crowd have floated the possibility that licensing issues, potentially due to some premium Hulu service on the way, are the villains in this case of the vanishing videos. We're not so sure that's the case and have reached out to Netflix to find out what's going on, but any plans to check out Liz Lemon and the crew this afternoon are ruined -- you may have to actually get some work done.
Update: The @NetflixHelps twitter account has posted this is a "purely technical" issue that it's currently working to resolve so put your worries aside, explaining the sudden burst of productivity to your boss will be difficult enough.
Update 2: The same account now reports things have returned to normal, and a quick glance at our queue appears to confirm it. Consider the weekend begun.

Reuters: Hulu plans to expand to iPad, Xbox 360, offer subscription service
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsWe've already heard rumors of Hulu coming to the iPad and Xbox 360, and rumors of a subscription service, and it looks like those might now all be coming together. According to Reuters, two sources and "another with knowledge of the matter" say that Hulu will be rolling out to "multiple devices" in the next month or two -- only the iPad and Xbox 360 are mentioned by name -- and that it will indeed be offering a subscription service. As we had heard, the subscription service would apparently only be for older episodes of TV shows and other content -- you'd still be able to watch new episodes of shows for free -- and it sounds like it will apply to Hulu as a whole, not just those aforementioned devices. Not many more details that that, unfortunately, but this does certainly seem to be taking on a feeling of inevitability.Reuters: Hulu plans to expand to iPad, Xbox 360, offer subscription service originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 12:22:00 EST. Engadget HD Podcast 197 – 06.8.2010
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No Comments
Say hello to the most special of guests this week -- our own Steve Kim! That's right, with a full complement of EHD podcasters we kick things off with plenty of Apple talk, including the other Steve's comments on set-top boxes, and the debut of the iPhone 4. After that we take a look at Redbox's Blu-ray rates and what's going on with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Amazon Gold Box deals on HD stuff this week are reason to be excited -- or afraid, before we close things out with the Sonic/DivX acquisition, this week's Ask Engadget HD and the latest promo from DirecTV and DISH Network.

Hulu headed to a Xbox 360 dashboard near you?
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsFrom its humble origins as a chunky black box of PC parts, the Xbox has grown into a strapping young adult -- attracting a social circle including Netflix, Facebook and Twitter. Now, rumor has it that the Xbox 360's preening for a date with Hulu, too. Though plans aren't set in stone, Gear Live tells us Hulu has been spotted in internal Xbox 360 dashboard builds, and that Microsoft will introduce the streaming video service as part of their Xbox LIVE experience at E3 2010. The publication is mighty certain here, but at this point we can't corroborate for ourselves. If this does end up happening, the question is how much it might cost, as we hear there's going to be some sort of fee -- perhaps Hulu will be part of that "Xbox LIVE Platinum Tier" rumor that gets dragged out most every year.Hulu headed to a Xbox 360 dashboard near you? originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 01 Jun 2010 23:40:00 EST.
