Four Disney HD channels go dark on DISH Network
Posted on June 23, 2010 | 1 Comment
Guess we can forget about ESPN 3D coming to DISH Network any time soon, as the dispute between the satellite company and Disney has escalated to the point that Disney Channel HD, Disney XD HD, ABC Family HD and ESPNews HD have all been removed from the service. They're still available in SD if you really need your The Secret Life of an American Teenager fix, but right now Disney is pointing to a New York State Court ruling from March indicating DISH owes it $65 million, which DISH is appealing. Multichannel News points out there's also a lawsuit between DISH and ESPN still ongoing as well, so we'll have to wait and see if this move helps negotiations along at all.Four Disney HD channels go dark on DISH Network originally appeared on Engadget HD on Wed, 23 Jun 2010 09:04:00 EST. Poll: When did you join the HDTV ownership club?
Posted on June 20, 2010 | No Comments
Since you're reading this, we'll guess that you have an HDTV (or three) in your possession but not everyone got on board the movement at the same time. So let it be known, did you suffer through the early days, with only a few channels, watching the Olympics a day behind and no HD movies on disc? Or are you a latecomer who jumped into a world full of cheap Blu-ray discs, downloadable HD and more HDTV channels than service providers think we can count?

Snow White’s Blu-ray debut is October 6
Posted on April 3, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Blu-ray
Announced during CES as the third title (after Sleeping Beauty and Pinnochio) to get Disney's Platinum Edition treatment, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will appear for the first time in high definition October 6 --well ahead of the standard DVD November 24 -- and Disney prez Bob Chapek is already bragging that it will be a reference point for home entertainment libraries. Expect a major push from Disney to upsell its family customers to the HDTV edition, with the staggered release scheduling and meticulous attention paid to this release, there's no question this as much a part of the company's Blu-ray driving strategy as its Magical Tour last year. USA Today also says several Blu-ray exclusive extras will be included, but your guess is as good as ours what they are, other than the now standard for Disney $40 combo pack that includes a DVD and Pinnochio's Disney View picture frame.Snow White's Blu-ray debut is October 6 originally appeared on Engadget HD on Fri, 03 Apr 2009 00:13:00 EST. You can already control your VUDU queue, home automation system and Netflix account with your iPhone, so really, why not your DirecTV set-top-box? As recent commercials have shown, the satcaster is pretty big on remote scheduling, and while this mysterious DirecTV iPhone app doesn't yet have a public purpose, it doesn't take much thought to conjure up a good guess. Word on the street is that this limited beta hasn't officially opened up for testers yet, but the image above shows otherwise. A staggeringly great Q4, an iPhone app on the horizon -- man, life's good at DirecTV. [Warning: Free subscription required for read link]
