Disney’s A Christmas Carol Blu-ray 3D box art — and $50 srp — revealed
Posted on May 23, 2010 | No CommentsDisney announced its first Blu-ray 3D disc Disney's A Christmas Carol would arrive in the fourth quarter during CES, but now TheHDRoom has box art for what will be a 4-disc combo pack including a 3D edition, 2D Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy. "Scrooge's Wild Ride" is exclusive to the 3D version, but both will have a 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack. The only bad news is a $49.99 srp for the pack, so we hope you really, really liked Jim Carrey's take on Scrooge -- the 2D Blu-ray version has a $39.99 srp.Disney's A Christmas Carol Blu-ray 3D box art -- and $50 srp -- revealed originally appeared on Engadget HD on Sun, 23 May 2010 07:48:00 EST. ADB set-back box squeezes a DVR on SDHC card behind your HDTV
Posted on May 19, 2010 | No CommentsThe space and weight requirements to fit a tru2way cable box behind an LCD or plasma HDTV would seem to rule out DVR functions, but ADB showed off a second generation set-back box that does just that. Dubbed Phantom, it can hold an SDHC card with programs either recorded elsewhere, or it can record directly to the card itself. Light Reading mentions there's also MoCA support to stream from standard DVRs, so while it's unlikely you'd have a memory card big enough to hold all the HDTV programs we watch, whether you're old school sneakernetting or going multiroom it can be your hidden HD DVR. The ADB-4820C it designed for Sony HDTVs that we saw at CES 2009 never appeared, but the company said at The Cable Show the Phantom could be available by late this year or early 2011, with potential targets in the hotel industry or direct retail sales.ADB set-back box squeezes a DVR on SDHC card behind your HDTV originally appeared on Engadget HD on Wed, 19 May 2010 13:26:00 EST. Panasonic launches Skype for 2010 VIERA Cast TVs
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No CommentsWe managed to get an early look at Panasonic's TV-friendly implementation of Skype back at CES in January, but the company has just now finally activated the app on all of its 2010 VIERA Cast-enabled TVs (including the VT25, VT20, G25, and G20 Series). To take advantage of it, however, you'll also have to shell out $170 for Panasonic's TY-CC10W webcam, which supports both VGA and 720p video, and packs four unidirectional microphones, an echo canceling system, and some beam-forming technology that promises to deliver clear audio over a typical TV viewing distance of three to four meters. Head on past the break for the complete press release, as well as Panasonic's requisite old-people-don't-get-technology ad for the TVs.Continue reading Panasonic launches Skype for 2010 VIERA Cast TVs

HDHomeRun CableCARD will feature three tuners in time for the holidays
Posted on May 11, 2010 | No CommentsWhat you're looking at here is a picture of the board that makes the new HDHomeRun CableCARD tuner work. You might notice the four squares on the right, those are the tuners, yes there are four -- don't get too excited -- but one of 'em is for the out of band data and can't actually be used to record HD. But that's still one more usable tuner than initially announced at CES and the best news is that the price remains the same at $249. There isn't a hard release data yet, but the goal is to release the beta details in the coming weeks, then submit it to CableLabs for certification and then finally have it in your HTPC in time for the holidays -- when exactly do holidays start again? The actual case isn't done yet, but there won't be a hump like the classic HDHomeRun and as you can see the gigabit network tuner's connections are all on the back including one coax, one USB, power, and a single CableCARD slot for all three tuners -- the USB doesn't do what you're thinking, it's for the Tuning Adapter. Contrary to some reports -- a USB version isn't on the table and we can't say we're surprised as that wouldn't be Silicon Dust's style. A picture of the connections on the prototype after the jump.
