Sears and Kmart launch streaming video service this Christmas
Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsAs physical media sales continue to drop it looks like the smart money is in streaming content. Now Sears (and Kmart, which it owns) is getting in the game with the Alphaline Entertainment service. Powered by Sonic's RoxioNow (which is the same architecture that as Best Buy and Wal-Mart's services), Alphaline will be available on TVs and Blu-ray players manufactured by Sharp, LG, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and RCA. Setup of your device is included in the sale price, which is pretty great on the off chance you are less able to setup consumer electronics than your typical Kmart employee. Keep an eye out for the service this holiday season. PR after the break.Continue reading Sears and Kmart launch streaming video service this Christmas

Samsung 3DTVs put to the test with World Cup, Monsters vs. Aliens and… iCarly?
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No Comments
Of course we've talked 3D to death and back, and we've seen several reviews and previews, but Technologizer took some time out to grab a more "man on the street" impression of the technology. With a mini focus group intact they checked out the Samsung Experience in NYC, taking time to focus on the top of the line 55-inch C9000 LED LCD HDTV. With not much 3D content (the initial vieweing was before the world Cup started) they checked out some regular 2D content converted by the display into 3D, while viewers were surprisingly receptive to The Daily Show and Transformers 2 that way, iCarly and American Idol didn't fare quite as well. Still, viewers seemed excited by the 3D Blu-ray movie pack-in, and a short time later, some German 3D fans were impressed by the World Cup presentation, though like our impressions the effect varied based on the camera angle. Ultimately, none of the people asked seemed ready to buy a 3DTV yet, citing lack of content and prices as their main reasons. click through for the full impressions, we'll wait a week or so and see if there's a followup when there's two or more 3D channels and Blu-ray 3D movies to watch.Samsung 3DTVs put to the test with World Cup, Monsters vs. Aliens and... iCarly? originally appeared on Engadget HD on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 20:04:00 EST. Samsung HMX-S16 WiFi SSD camcorder shipping in Korea, due stateside any minute
Posted on May 26, 2010 | No CommentsWhile it's not surprising that a Korean electronics firm would let Korean natives get the first crack at their latest line of wares, it's not without some small jealousy that we tell you the Samsung HMX-S16 camcorder is shipping in South Korea today. After all, it's not every day we see a sexy black number like this sporting solid state storage and streaming video over WiFi. Still, we'll only have time to be envious for a couple more sunrises. Amazon is already taking preorders for the flagship 64GB model, which it says will ship May 28th for $1,200, and you can get the very same 10 megapixel CMOS chip, 1080/60i recording and 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD in a cheaper $1,000, 32GB package -- the HMX-S15 -- if you can manage to hold off until June 4th.
