Panasonic announces 46-, 42-inch plasma 3DTVs for Japan
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsSo far, Panasonic's well-reviewed (and naturally, 3D capable) 2010 V-series plasmas have been exclusively a 50-inch and above affair, but it's just announced 46- and 42-inch versions for Japan priced at ¥350,000 ($3,833) and ¥300,000 ($3,285), respectively. Due July 30, it's a fair bet they'll make their way over here in a similar time frame (and with predictably lower MSRPs) just like their larger brethren. Panasonic has reported brisk sales of its initial 3D televisions, but as production ramps up and supply expands, TVs like these are a better fit for many rooms -- and budgets -- so with 3D channels and gaming ready to appear, we'll be eyeing their reception by consumers especially closely.Panasonic announces 46-, 42-inch plasma 3DTVs for Japan originally appeared on Engadget HD on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 00:45:00 EST. Sharp’s 30-screen display features world’s thinnest bezel separation (video)
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No CommentsWe've all been impressed by multsicreen setups before. Thing is, the bezel dividing the displays is always a distraction to the overall effect. Sharp's new LED backlit PN-V601 60-inch LCD monitor hopes to resolve this a bit with a 2.4-mm bezel width on the right-side and bottom and 4.1-mm bezel along the left-side and top. The result is a meager 6.5mm display separation when inserted into a 5x6 matrix of 30 adjoining LCDs demonstrated at the product launch. Check the impressive results in the video after the break, it's a little like watching the opening scene of The Dark Knight through razor-thin chickenwire. Ok, not really, but it's worth a look anyway.Continue reading Sharp's 30-screen display features world's thinnest bezel separation (video)

Motorola’s 4 tuner DVR for Japan
Posted on May 31, 2010 | No CommentsIf there was any doubt that cable operators were to blame for the crappy set-top boxes most people use -- and not Motorola or Cisco -- then this VIP2060 puts it to rest. This DVR will likely never see the US shores with its four tuners and 500GB hard drive because that would be just too awesome. Add in the box's ability to tune IPTV, satellite and over the air signals and it really makes it a dream box that we'll never get. Of course all these specs don't shed any light on quality of the software and since the box is unobtainable, we're going to just believe that the software is dreaded, because that is what its going to take to get us through this post.Motorola's 4 tuner DVR for Japan originally appeared on Engadget HD on Mon, 31 May 2010 22:42:00 EST. PlayStation 3’s first 3D title updates coming June 10th to Japan
Posted on May 31, 2010 | No CommentsGood news / bad news, folks. First with the smiles: PlayStation 3's first 3D-enabling updates are due out on June 10th for downloadable titles Super Stardust HD, WipEout HD, and Pain. The first two games get the added dimension for gratis, but Pain lovers (who should be accustomed by now to its abundant premium add-ons) will need to fork over ¥300 (approximately $3.28) for the benefit. The other stickler is that these updates are so far only announced for Japan -- and by merit of a Bravia promotion, Europe as well. So what's a North American gamer with a penchant for wearing special glasses to do? Keep waiting, true believers.PlayStation 3's first 3D title updates coming June 10th to Japan originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 31 May 2010 18:13:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
