Posted on June 11, 2010 | No CommentsThe latest version (2.8.1) of the TiVo Desktop software is official, and it's added a few new features in both its free edition and the upgraded Plus package. The basic software has added a few additional settings, but the most notable is the ability to view folders on a PC from the DVR itself. Those paying $24.95 for TiVo Desktop Plus should notice increased video quality on PSP TiVoToGo exports, plus new profiles for the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, DROID, Pre and several Blackberry models. Dave Zatz has already gotten his hands on the latest version, reporting some issues connecting to a TiVo Premiere; hit the download page for your own copy and let us know how it works.TiVo Desktop Software hits version 2.8.1, adds folder view from PC, export for iPad, Pre & more originally appeared on Engadget HD on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 13:33:00 EST. iPhone 4 does 720p HD video, iMovie
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No Comments
A backside-illuminated 5 megapixel sensor is about to grace the new iPhone's rear, equipped with an LED flash and 720p / 30fps video recording. Tap to focus will also be rolled out in the iPhone Quattro, and Steve Jobs is keen to impress on us all that although the megapixel count has grown, the quality of images has apparently improved. That's what they all say. The added functionality of iMovie won't come for free, however, with Apple asking a $4.99 tithe for granting access to its more sophisticated video editing options. This is moving things along, to be sure, but why is the upper limit of storage still 32GB? A more generous apportionment of memory would've gone very nicely indeed with that HD video mode.

AVSForum launches free iPhone App
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsAs HD geeks there aren't many things we enjoy more than a spirited debate on an online venue and for our interests none are matched by the great AVS Forum -- other than our very own comments of course. We've learned more from this single source than all others combined -- well maybe not if you include Wikipedia -- and often get into it pretty thick with other participants. So you can imagine our joy to learn we have a new way to call out those that are wrong while we're on the go without having to carry around a full laptop. Overall we have to say we find the app very useful and at free it sure is priced right.AVSForum launches free iPhone App originally appeared on Engadget HD on Wed, 02 Jun 2010 21:31:00 EST. Steve Jobs at D8: Foxconn, iPhone prototype, TVs, and more
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsIn case you hadn't heard, Steve Jobs got downright conversational last night at D8, riffing on questions from Walt, Kara, and the attending audience of elites. You can hit up the entire liveblog for a timestamped play by play, or browse through some of the highlights below.
- On TV: 'no one wants to buy a box'
- On Foxconn: 'We're all over this'
- On lost iPhone 4G prototype: it's an 'amazing' story
- iPhone OS 'started on a tablet'
- 'There might be' advantages to two iPhone carriers in US
We put some extra scintillating quotes after the break to shield the eyes of your children. Just a note, however: all of these are paraphrased quotes typed live as Steve was speaking, and not to be construed as the verbatim Word of Steve Jobs, though the gist is certainly there.Continue reading Steve Jobs at D8: Foxconn, iPhone prototype, TVs, and more

Steve Jobs’ D8 interview: the video highlights (updated)
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsSure, you read our liveblog of Steve Jobs' D8 conference -- and believe us, it's heavily quotable -- but don't you want to see and hear the Apple CEO claim HyperCard was huge in its day? Or perhaps you're more interested in his thoughts on Flash, market cap, and the iPad origins -- either way, videos are after the break, with presumably more to come from All Things D.
Update: Four new videos have been added!
Update 2: Two new videos have been added!Continue reading Steve Jobs' D8 interview: the video highlights (updated)
