Blu-ray releases on June 22nd 2010
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Comments
This is a very odd week for us because while there are a number of day and date titles none that we can say we've heard of, except the super terrible Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Theft. As far as we can tell the beset is Matt Damon's Green Zone, but even that isn't something we feel the urge to buy and instead will wait another 30 days to watch it via Netflix. There are a few for the fairer sex this week as well, like The Last Station and Remember Me.- Green Zone (Universal)
- The Last Station (Sony)
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (Fox)
- Remember Me (Summit)
- She's Out of My League (DreamWorks)
- A Star is Born (Warner)
- Close-Up (Criterion)
- Death Race 2000 (Shout! Factory)
- Red Desert (Criterion)
- Riverworld (Vivendi)

Tranquil PC iXL takes you up to 2.93GHz sans fans, has equally lofty price
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No CommentsWe told you Intel's 32nm Clarkdales were power efficient, right? Well, Tranquil PC's slapped one of those chips, a 2.93GHz Core i3-530 to be precise, into its all-new iXL Power PC and now boasts a total system juice consumption of a measly 30W at idle. That means this HTPC can get away with living the quiet, fanless life, while HDMI, a trio of eSATA ports, a multicard reader, and a Blu-ray option flesh out a comprehensive package. Naively, we thought we'd throw the Blu-ray drive in with a 500GB hard disk to see what this might cost us, and were stricken with grief at the sight of a £742 ($1,100) price tag. Should four-digit entry fees not scare you off, you'll want to know that the iXL is shipping now. For everyone else, hit the source link for a a bunch of glamor photos.Tranquil PC iXL takes you up to 2.93GHz sans fans, has equally lofty price originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 06:33:00 EST. Blu-ray releases on June 15th 2010

If you're starting to get the idea that the Summer time is the when you're supposed to go out and enjoy nature instead of sitting in a dark home theater, there's good reason for that. There are a few day and date titles like The Book of Eli from Warner, but for the most part it is a week of catalogs with some not so classical titles like Darkman and Flash Gordon. It won't be like this forever though and before you know it, it'll be cold out, there will be football on in HD and all the big Summer blockbusters will be hitting Blu-ray. Yeah, we don't care much for the Summer either.

Paramount, Redbox keep DVDs and Blu-ray discs in kiosks the same day they go on sale
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No Comments
It looks like not all of the remaining Hollywood studios are putting the 30-day brakes on providing movies to Redbox, as Paramount has concluded after a ten month study that it has "minimal" effect on DVD sales. Dennis Maguire, President of Paramount Home Entertainment says the the company is "allowing the consumer a choice of how to consume our movies while maximizing the profitability of our releases in the home entertainment window" while Redbox prez Mitch Lowe looked forward to joint marketing programs. That puts another studio on deck to provide the Blu-ray rentals we're expecting to see later this year and is a pretty sharp contrast to recent deals with Fox and Warner delaying low cost rentals to protect their day one sales and premium rentals on video on-demand.Paramount, Redbox keep DVDs and Blu-ray discs in kiosks the same day they go on sale originally appeared on Engadget HD on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 17:46:00 EST.
